Don’t fight the mid-heavy nature of the electric guitar. Accept it! Improve it. In addition to the countless Tube Screamer knockoffs that promise to do just that, Origin earlier this year released its sophisticated and nuanced Halcyon Green Overdrive, allowing you to hear yourself and be heard in the jumble of a band mix. But by no means is the overdrive pedal action over for this year.
The Pultec unit has been “reimagined” by Origin Effects as a guitar overdrive pedal with three selectable mid-range frequencies and saturation to switch from mind-hump to spicy cocked wah-like vintage tones.
According to Origin Effects, as the pedal improves, the Adaptive Circuitry enables a reduction in the “high-end roll-off of the Cut control.” In response to your playing dynamics or gain control from your guitar’s volume, the result is a smoother transition from warm overdrive to bright clean tones.
If you own the Fender Mustang I or II Guitar amp, you can get a similar distortion from one of the several stomp effects available on Fender FUSE Software that you can download for free from our website.
