“Black Magic Woman” was written by British musician Peter Green that was released as a single in 1968 by his band Fleetwood Mac. The song was later included on the Fleetwood Mac compilation albums English Rose (US) and The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK), as well as the later Greatest Hits and Vintage Years.
The song was released as the first single from Santana’s album Abraxas in 1970. The song, as sung by Gregg Rolie, peaked at number four on the US and Canadian charts, making Santana’s recording the more well-known version of the song.
Lyrics:
Got a black magic woman
Got a black magic woman
I got a black magic woman
Got me so blind I can’t see
That she’s a black magic woman
She’s tryin’ to make a devil out of me
Don’t turn your back on me baby
Don’t turn your back on me baby
Yes, don’t turn your back on me baby
Stop messin’ ’round with your tricks
Don’t turn your back on me baby
You just might pick up my magic sticks
Ah!
Got your spell on me baby
Got your spell on me baby
Yes, you got your spell on me baby
Turning my heart into stone
I need you so bad, magic woman
I can’t leave you alone
